The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) has announced a five-year kit and equipment deal with adidas.

The switch to the German giant move brings an end to a 10-year association with Italian clothing company Kappa while the often-criticised Mitre match ball used solely by the Azzurri will also be replaced.

"We are thrilled to welcome Adidas as a sponsor," FIR president Giancarlo Dondi said. "I am certain that such a prestigious partner will represent a new means of promoting rugby in our country."

Italy, who join the likes of New Zealand and Munster in the adidas stable, will unveil their new playing strip in September and will wear it for the first time when they take on Tonga on November 10.
