London Welsh head coach Lyn Jones has played down expectations that Gavin Henson will be back to his 2005 best.

Henson was handed yet another olive branch when London Welsh announced his signing yesterday - his fifth club in 15 months. He has been without a club since April when he was sacked by the Cardiff Blues for an off-field incident. But under Jones - a coach who Henson worked with from 2003 to 2008 at the Ospreys - Henson will hope to re-find some form and push his way back into the Wales reckoning.

Jones is looking forward to working with Henson but has sounded a note of caution claiming that it will take time for him to find his feet at the Exiles.

"There's a good chance he'll never reach those heights (of his time at the Ospreys) again to be honest with you, but he just needs to get up to speed and establish himself and I'm not really confident he'll became a very, very good player until about maybe mid-October, November," Jones told Sky Sports News."The guy needs a bit of time, he needs a bit of space, his tools are quite blunt and he'll need to sharpen them up, so he's got a lot of work ahead of him that he's prepared to get on with.

"He's rolling his sleeves up, and all you can do is offer people opportunities and it's up to them how they take it but we're confident that he can deliver."
