Worcester Warriors boss Dean Ryan is adamant his side will continue battling relegation until it becomes a mathematical certainty they will be playing their rugby in the Championship next term.

Worcester are currently 11 points adrift at the foot of the Aviva Premiership with just six games left. They entertain Wasps tonight and then play against Newcastle, who are in 11th, in the next round. Ryan has always dodged talk of relegation and he was in a similarly bullish mood ahead of Friday's game against Wasps.

"It is not so much the mathematical situation that is concerning, but the dynamics of that game against Newcastle," Ryan told the Times. "We have to win at Newcastle, everyone knows that, but the dynamics of that game with a win under your belt are very different than without one. The pressure is very much on us at the moment, but if we beat Wasps the momentum shifts."

Worcester have started to build their squad ahead of next season and have brought in Sam Smith and Ryan Mills to bolster their back division. It is likely they will bid farewell to a number of their players if relegation does become a reality but Ryan has stuck to his guns of focusing the recruitment process on young English players.

"Next year will be a tough year wherever we are because we will not have as many seasoned campaigners," Ryan said. "The planning was always to create a much younger, much more English-qualified side irrespective of which division we are in."
