World Cup-winning coach Sir Clive Woodward has reportedly met with the French Rugby Federation about the soon-to-be-vacant coaching job for their national team.

Woodward, according to reports in the Daily Mail, met with the FFR on Tuesday, to talk both the head coach post and also a wider remit which may see him work alongside Philippe Saint-Andre's replacement. Original reports suggested he was on the FFR's final eight-man shortlist for the post alongside favourite Guy Noves and Raphael Ibanez.

If Woodward does replace Saint-Andre, he would be the first non-Frenchman to take control of their national team. He would bring a wealth of experience to the role having coach England to the World Cup in 2003 and also took control of the British & Irish Lions on their tour of New Zealand in 2005.

But the Lions was his last full-time rugby post and he has since spent time with Southampton FC and played an integral role in the 2012 Olympics.
