Alex Corbisiero is in danger of missing out on a place in England's final 31-man Rugby World Cup squad.

Head coach Stuart Lancaster admitted there is cause for concern over Corbisiero's fitness after the Northampton Saints prop was ruled out of England's return warm-up fixture against France.

Corbisiero has been suffering from sciatica since his replacement appearance during England's 19-14 victory against Les Bleus at Twickenham last Saturday.

"Unfortunately for Alex, the decision about this weekend has been taken out of my hands and that could have a bearing longer term, and by that I mean next week," Lancaster said.

"He has got to be able to train next week and that is not for definite. The clock is ticking and we need to see him train. I don't know how long sciatic pain takes to settle."

Corbisiero's situation is just one of several selection dilemmas Lancaster faces ahead of the August 31 deadline by which he must name his final World Cup squad.

The 26-year-old was an integral player in the British & Irish Lions' series victory in Australia two years ago, but has not started an England international since 2012 having suffered serious knee and shoulder injuries.
