Chris Robshaw prepared to lose England captaincy - O'Shea

Losing the England captaincy would be "water off a duck's back" to Chris Robshaw, his Harlequins boss Conor O'Shea has said.

Robshaw skippered England throughout Stuart Lancaster's reign, which ended with the disappointment of a pool stage Rugby World Cup exit.

Lancaster has since departed and it has been widely reported that his successor, Eddie Jones, will look to put his own stamp on the team.

That would leave Robshaw's role as captain in some doubt but according to O'Shea the flanker is mentally prepared for such an eventuality.

"Eddie is making a new start," O'Shea told The Times. "Does that mean Chris won't ever play for England or might never captain them again? Who knows? The first job for Chris is to get in the team, second job: see what happens. He is pretty philosophical about it.

"We've gone through this with Chris. He's aware at the moment there's going to be speculation. It'll be water off a duck's back. He just wants to play for England and see what happens from there.

"Eddie will put his own stamp on things. He may end up with Chris, but let's get him in the team first."
