No movement from ERC over registrations

The organisers of the Heineken Cup and European Shield have highlighted their stance over player registrations following club appeals over several players including Tim Horan and Peter Rogers.

A statement from Cardiff claims that they believed "all necessary steps were taken" to check procedures before Peter Rogers was registered as an extra front row player after his move from Newport. However the organisers (ERC) have restated their position that he is not available following his registration for the competition by his former club.

Saracens, who admitted an administration lapse regarding Tim Horan's registration, are also unlikely to get any dispensation from ERC.

In a further move to stamp out clubs fielding unregistered players London Irish officials have been summoned to attend a disciplinary hearing in Dublin to explain why they fielded an ineligible player, prop Richard Bates, in their European Shield victory over French club Aurillac last Saturday.

In a statement ERC said: "This (registration) procedure has thrown up a number of queries so far and these are being fully investigated by ERC Ltd. Those clubs involved have been informed of our position and have been made aware, once again, of the tournament regulations."
