New South African coach Harry Viljoen (pictured) visited Durban on Wednesday to speak to Ian McIntosh about the possibility of the former Natal legend joining his team.

Viljoen will only confirm his management team next week, but he is keen to have the former Bok coach onboard when the team departs for Argentina, the UK and Ireland later in the month.

"I have not called Mac yet," Viljoen told a newspaper. "But I want to chat to him in the next day or so. His experience would be invaluable on a tour that has such a heavy schedule.

"We are taking 40 players, which is a huge undertaking. I need somebody to look after the non-Test team, and maybe that is where a guy like Mac could play an important role. We have worked together in the past and I would respect his input enormously.

"I will be in a position to confirm my management team for the tour next week."

Viljoen is currently on a fact-finding mission - touring the country to see how each of the provinces operate. "I spent Monday with Western Province," Viljoen said.

"I am trying to get a feel of how each province operates. I am chatting to the various coaches and generally renewing acquaintances in the rugby world after a bit of an absence."
