Murrayfield cleared for Six Nations

Murrayfield has been given the all clear to host Scotland's two home Six Nations matches despite lingering concerns about the state of the pitch.

The Edinburgh playing surface was found have been damaged by nematodes, a form of parasites, in September, before being churned up further during the autumn internationals against Japan, South Africa and Australia.

But despite these ongoing concerns Scotland's games against England on February 8 and France on March 8 are still expected to go ahead at Murrayfield, even though they may have to play match at an alternative venue if the pitch worsens condition further before then.

Edinburgh's RaboDirect PRO12 match against Ospreys on February 28 looks almost certain to be moved in order to preserve the pitch for the national team.

An Edinburgh spokesperson said: "Continued concerns over the current condition of the Murrayfield pitch have prompted Edinburgh Rugby to explore alternative venues in which to hold their next home game.

"The club are scheduled to host Ospreys on Friday February 28, with a preferred alternative being sought in the city should the match be required to move."

Other competitions which will be forced to move away from the home of Scottish rugby are the National Youth League Finals on February 16 and the Brewin Dolphin Girls' Finals on March 28.
