Sean Maitland will miss the remainder of the Six Nations due to the injuries he sustained against Ireland in the opening round.

He was helped from the pitch at Aviva Stadium in Dublin midway through the first-half of Scotland's 28-6 with concussion, knee and ankle injuries.

Maitland was initially was ruled out of Saturday's Calcutta Cup match against England at Murrayfield but Scotland team doctor James Robson said on Wednesday that consultant orthopaedic surgeon Graham Lawson had "found that Sean has sustained some damage to the structures of his knee and ankle but, happily, does not require surgery".

"The expected recovery time for soft tissue damage of this sort is up to eight weeks," Dr Robson said. "Sean is now beginning work on his rehabilitation in the care of the Glasgow Warriors medical team."
