Mils Muliaina has been charged with sexual assault.

Muliaina, 34, was arrested in April while playing for his Irish club Connacht against Gloucester in England, with the former All Blacks fullback taken away from Kingsholm Stadium for questioning after the fixture.

"Mils Muliaina has been charged with sexual assault on a female aged 16 or over," South Wales Police said in a statement to the New Zealand Herald. "He is scheduled to appear at Cardiff Magistrates Court on the 7th August."

The New Zealand Herald reported that: "Inspector Andy Walbeoff, of South Wales Police, has said the alleged victim was a 19-year-old female, local to the Cardiff area. Walbeoff was unable to confirm where the alleged assault took place, as it could 'compromise further witnesses'."

Muliaina, who was released on bail in April, denies the allegation.

Muliaina, a Rugby World Cup winner in 2011, played 100 matches for the All Blacks, including three as captain, and played for the Blues and Chiefs at Super Rugby level. He played in Japan for three seasons before heading to Europe. He is set to join Italian club Zebre.
