Patrick Fa'apale kicked a last-minute penalty as Samoa forced a 30-30 draw with Fiji having trailed by 17 points after 51 minutes of their Pacific Nations Cup Test at Bonney Field in Sacramento.

Fiji led 27-10 after 51 minutes before Samoa launched a dogged comeback, tying the match with tries from prop Anthony Perenise, centre Paul Perez - who bagged a double - and T.J. Ioane.

The Fijians edged ahead again, 30-27, with a penalty to Ben Volavola in the 75th minute, but Fa'apale nervelessly slotted the final goal to complete a thrilling game.

Fiji scored tries through Leone Nakarawa, Metuisela Talebula and Gabiriele Lovbalavu.
