Scotland co-captain Mike Blair endured a losing return to action as Scotland 'A' were thrashed 34-19 by the newly re-branded Ireland Wolfhounds at Ravenhill on Friday night.

Blair made his return from injury alongside Glasgow youngster Ruaridh Jackson but a brace of tries from Leinster centre Fergus McFadden sent the Wolfhounds to victory following a narrow defeat at the hands of England Saxons in Bath last weekend. The home side raced into a 17-0 half-time lead after McFadden's first score and an effort from skipper Chris Henry. Ian Humphreys landed three penalties on his home ground to complete the first-half scoring.

Scotland fought back after the break with tries from flanker James Eddie and centre Mark Robertson but Ireland had plenty in reserve as McFadden struck again and scrum-half Isaac Boss and Leicester wing Johne Murphy completed a comprehensive result.

Scotland coach Sean Lineen took few positives from the game and lamented his side's mistakes allowing their hosts to capitalise.

"There were a lot of good performances, but I was very disappointed with the result," he said. "We played like a team that had not been together very long and all of their five tries came from us giving them the ball. I was pleased with certain aspects, but all five of Ireland's tries came from our mistakes. Ireland's tries came from four turnovers and one aimless kick which they successfully counter-attacked."
