England skipper Steve Borthwick has missed training due to illness but is expected to recover in time to take his place in the pack to face Italy at the Stadio Flaminio on Saturday.

Borthwick turned in a strong performance as England defeated Wales in their opening game at Twickenham, helping to disrupt the Welsh lineout significantly.

There is positive news for England manager Martin Johnson as centres Riki Flutey and Shontayne Hape have both been cleared to return to action.

Flutey was withdrawn from the starting line-up to face Wales due to a dead leg suffered in training, while a bug prevented former rugby league star Hape from making a possible debut off the bench.

Johnson is set to announce his side to face the Azzurri at 12.00GMT on Wednesday.
