Scotland wing Thom Evans has undergone surgery on a neck injury sustained during his side's 31-24 loss to Wales in Cardiff.

The Glasgow flyer was stretchered off at the end of the first-half at the Millennium Stadium following a heavy collision with Welsh fullback Lee Byrne and immediately taken to hospital, along with fullback Chris Paterson. Paterson won his 100th Test cap, but was forced off with a kidney injury.

Scotland doctor James Robson confirmed that Evans had undergone surgery but was moving his arms and legs, while Paterson requires observation.

"Thom has sustained damage to his neck that has required surgery," he said. "He is moving his arms and legs and we are hoping for a speedy recovery.

"Chris sustained damage to his right kidney during a collision in the first-half. On admission to hospital it became evident that the damage would require a period of observation and, in particular, bed rest in order to aid his recuperation."
