Andy Powell is committed to returning to action for Wales after being axed from their Six Nations squad.

The Blues back-row will appear in court on March 2 to answer a drink driving charge after being arrested for taking golf buggy from the Wales team hotel and driving to a nearby service station while under the influence of alcohol on Sunday morning.

Powell had started the sensational Six Nations victory over Scotland the day before but was cut from the squad in the wake of his arrest.

Powell's agent, Mike Burton, has released a statement confirming that Powell has made a public apology for the incident and will work towards regaining his international place.

"Andy Powell has accepted the disciplinary decision handed down by the WRU and confirmed his public apology for the incident which occurred last Sunday morning," the statement read.

"Andy remains a committed professional and will now work towards re-establishing himself in the Welsh squad at a time when the WRU team management think fit."

Powell's omission will open the door for Jonathan Thomas, Sam Warburton or Dan Lydiate at blindside flanker, with the balance of the back-row improving following Thomas' shift from lock and the introduction of powerful Blues youngster Bradley Davies into the second-row.
