Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards has reiterated his commitment to the Aviva Premiership club after denying reports that he is on the brink of a return to rugby league.

Edwards, who recently signed a new two-year contract with the club, has been linked with a return to rugby league side Wigan Warriors where he made 467 appearances for the club. But the Wasps coach has dismissed the speculation and insisted he is committed to turning round the fortunes of the Premiership side following a disappointing season in which they finished ninth in the table this season and were knocked out of the Heineken Cup at the group stages.

"I am fully committed to Wasps and I am more determined than ever to get us back into play-off contention next season," Edwards said. "With the signings we have made we feel we have strengthened in the right positions and next season will be a fresh start."

Reports suggested that Edwards, 44, was ready to end his association with Wasps and Wales, where he is assistant coach to Warren Gatland, with Phil Greening replacing him as head coach at the Premiership club and Dean Ryan coming in as the new director of rugby.

Wasps' poor showing domestically and in Europe cost Tony Hanks his position of director of rugby earlier in the season but the club confirmed in a statement that no decision has yet been taken concerning the vacant position.

Edwards had already confirmed that he would see out his contract with Wales which lasts until the end of the Rugby World Cup in October.
