Former France hooker Olivier Azam has been announced as the new Director of Sport at Top 14 club Oyonnax, taking over at the end of the current season.

Azam won 10 France caps between 1995 and 2002 and enjoyed a distinguished career with Gloucester in the English Premiership. Oyonnax announced that he has signed a three-year contract and would be in charge of the entire sporting policy of the club, both at amateur and professional level.

Since retiring, he has filled the role of forwards coach at Toulon, with whom he won the Heineken Cup in 2013, and since the summer of 2013 Azam has been forwards coach at Lyon, helping the club to the second tier Pro D2 title in 2013-14.

The 40-year-old will replace Castres-bound Christophe Urios in the top job at Oyonnax and his support staff will be announced in coming weeks.

Oyonnax, who were promoted to the Top 14 in 2013, finished 12th in their first season in the top flight and currently sit ninth in the division and second in Pool 5 of the European Challenge Cup, behind Azam's former club Gloucester.
