Tearful Bastareaud: 'I'm a zombie'

Mathieu Bastareaud is at the end of his tether with his poor form and broke down in tears in the wake of Toulon's loss to Stade Francais on Sunday.

Stade Francais took top spot in the Top 14 thanks to a comfortable 30-6 win over the reigning champions and it was a defeat that left Bastareaud in tears. Bastareaud, who played for Stade Francais between 2007 and 2011, told Canal Plus in the aftermath: "You have to know how face up to things.

"Since the beginning of the season I haven't been able to find my form. I'm a zombie. I think that now I've come to the end of the road. There comes a time when you have to say stop!"

Toulon coach Pierre Mignoni described the performance as "unacceptable" and they will no doubt be looking for a response against Montpellier on Saturday. Despite Bastareaud's lamentations over his poor form, he has played 19 times for club and country this term.
