Tindall under injury cloud

England captain Mike Tindall is facing a race to be fit for Saturday's Six Nations Grand Slam decider against Ireland in Dublin.

Tindall injured his ankle in yesterday's 22-16 victory over Scotland at Twickenham and was replaced my Matt Banahan at half-time. The Gloucester centre lifted the Calcutta Cup but then left the ground in a protective boot to undergo x-rays.

England medics have delayed any official announcement on his availability until tomorrow with the 32-year-old set to be further assessed when the squad reconvene at Pennyhill Park this afternoon.

If Tindall is ruled out of the game then Banahan is favourite to earn a promotion to the starting line-up with the captaincy likely to pass to No.8 Nick Easter who led the side in the second half of yesterday's game.

"It is never nice coming off at half-time," Tindall said following Sunday's victory. "I just rolled my ankle and it is not worth risking it when you have someone like Matt Banahan to come on."
