World No. 1 Judd Trump was dumped out in the first round of the UK Championship as he suffered a shock 6-5 defeat to Mark Joyce.

Trump looked to be firmly on course for victory after sailing to a 3-0 lead at York's Barbican Centre, but was pegged back by Joyce, who won the final four frames to clinch a hard-earned victory.

Joyce, who beat Trump at the same tournament two years ago, looked to be well beaten with Trump in command at 5-2, but the world No. 50 dug deep to keep himself in the contest, fighting hard to force a deciding frame.

Both players had chances to snatch the victory, but a break of 49 saw Joyce take control before pulling off an upset against the defending champion.

Joyce's reward is a second-round clash against Ali Carter, who eased Steve Davis 6-2. It was a scrappy encounter, but Carter's consistency was the difference, as he got the better of the six-time champion.

Mark Allen also suffered a shock defeat as he was knocked out by Marco Fu. Allen battled back from 5-1 down, but Fu held his nerve to seal a 6-3 victory.

Former champion Shaun Murphy set up a second round clash with Graeme Dott as he saw off a stubborn Robert Milkins 6-3, while Mark Davis cruised past Cao Yupeng 6-1.
