Shaun Murphy won the final five frames to beat Ali Carter 9-8 in the semi-finals of the UK Championship.

Carter secured a slender lead in the afternoon session and pressed home his advantage with some excellent play in the evening at York's Barbican Centre. However, Murphy roared out after the mid-session interval and he steamrolled Carter to claim victory.

Murphy was on the brink of defeat at 8-4 behind, but he kept himself in the hunt with a 76 to cut the deficit to three.

The 2005 World Champion took his fouls total to 59 when going in-off on a couple of occasions in the next, but Carter went on the defensive by refusing pots and Murphy took the 14th.

Carter refused a long red in the 15th and he was made to pay as Murphy crafted a quite brilliant 105 to move within one. And the Murphy bandwagon rolled on with a 78 to force a deciding frame.

Having been in his shell for four frames, Carter nailed a tough red in the final frame. He got in with 32 but missed a red down the rail. Murphy sprang out of his chair and knocked in a string of superb pots in making 39.

A safety battle ensued and it was Murphy who forced the mistake from Carter. He stroked a superb red into the middle to get going and it propelled him into Sunday's final.
