Newcastle set to win Yanga-Mbiwa race
Newcastle are reported to have agreed terms with Montpellier over the signing of defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
The Press Association reports that the two clubs have agreed a fee - believed to be in the region of £7 million - and Newcastle are now negotiating terms with the player.
Yanga-Mbiwa, 23, had been expected to join AC Milan in the summer but Montpellier rejected the Italian giants' bid. Arsenal have also regularly been linked with the France centre-back.
There are suggestions he is being lined up as a replacement for captain Fabricio Coloccini, who is due to hold talks with the club on Monday about a return to Argentina with San Lorenzo.
A San Lorenzo insider is quoted as telling the Newcastle-based Evening Chronicle newspaper: "It is very clear that he does not want to be at Newcastle anymore - but this is for family reasons, nothing else.
"It is a difficult situation and it all depends on Newcastle United. But he either wants to return now, or at the end of the season. San Lorenzo are looking at two options, either he can get out of his contract or they will find the fee."
