O'Sullivan still in front against Carter

Ronnie O'Sullivan maintained his two-frame advantage over Ali Carter to lead 9-7 in the second round of the World Snooker Championship.

In a repeat of last year's final, world champion O'Sullivan led the opening session 5-3, and the eight scheduled frames on Sunday afternoon were shared, despite Carter being on level terms in the contest.

O'Sullivan - who is playing in a major tournament for the first time since lifting his fourth world title at the Crucible last May - moved three frames clear at 6-3 by compiling a break of 86.

Carter with runs of 73 and 87 closed the gap to within a frame at 6-5, but a century from O'Sullivan of 105 kept the Rocket in front.

Carter's 63 cancelled out O'Sullivan's 61 in the 13th frame as the former pulled another frame back, and then the German Masters champion was all-square at 7-7 and put the pressure on O'Sullivan.

However, O'Sullivan produced the goods when it mattered most and sealed the final two frames of the session with knocks of 73 and 86.

Ding Junhui turned his fortunes around in his second round clash with Mark King to hold a 9-7 lead.

China's No. 1 was outdone by solid matchplay snooker on Saturday night and trailed 6-2, but fought back superbly in the second session to claim seven of the eight frames.

Ricky Walden is 10-6 up over Neil Robertson's conqueror Robert Milkins, while Mark Davis - who put out four-time champion John Higgins - is locked at 8-8 with Stuart Bingham.
