Trump fights back against Murphy

Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy are locked at 8-8 after Trump dominated the second session of their World Snooker Championship quarter-final tie.

The 2011 finalist was out-of-sorts on Tuesday morning as former world champion Murphy won the opening session 6-2, and could easily have taken all eight frames after he presented Trump with two frames.

However, Trump returned to the Crucible for the second session more like his usual attacking self, and produced some fine snooker to rattle Murphy and prevent him from gaining the upper hand with one session to go by claiming six of the eight scheduled frames.

The Ace in the Pack was in trouble at the start of the night, as Murphy pulled further clear with a 91 break to make it 7-2, but last season's UK champion began to motor, and a quick-fire 93 reduced the deficit to four frames.

Murphy did enough to go 8-3 in front, but that was to be the last significant contribution from the world No. 4, as Trump reeled off five consecutive frames - which included a break of 118 - to leave the contest finely poised.

Ding Junhui continues to trail Barry Hawkins, with China's No. 1 9-7 behind. Hawkins, who sent world No. 1 Mark Selby crashing out of the tournament in the previous round, led 5-3 from the morning, and was able to maintain his two-frame advantage.
