World No. 18 Marcu Fu claimed a shock 9-6 victory to upstage home favourite Neil Robertson in the final of the Australian Open in Bendigo.

Robertson was looking for his second successive ranking event win of the season after picking up the Wuxi Classic in June, but Fu was in fine form to prevent the Australian from lifting the trophy.

Fu took the opening frame with a break of 98, but world No. 1 Robertson responded with a 78 and 92 to take a 2-1 lead.

The 35-year-old stretched his lead to 7-4 before Robertson hit back once more, this time to pull within one frame at 7-6.

However, Fu kept his composure to take the next two frames, sealing his second career ranking event victory with the match's highest break of 102 in the final frame.

"I had a good season last year and played some good snooker, but it was frustrating not to win a title," Fu told worldsnooker.com "This takes a lot of pressure off me and I can enjoy the rest of the season. The standard is so high now that it's just very nice to be able to win a tournament.

"It was just nice to be able to participate in the final here, playing in Australia is great. Thanks to the fans for their support and I hope we can come back next year. "
