Mark Williams showed glimpses of the form that propelled him to two world titles as he thumped Mark Selby 4-1 at the Indian Open.

The 38-year-old has slipped to 18th in the world, but played like a world No. 1 as he upset the man second in the rankings Selby, rattling in breaks of 50, 72, 69 and 100 to storm into the last 16, where he will play home favourite Aditya Mehta after he defeated Hammad Miah 4-1.

Four-time champion of the world John Higgins continues to impress at the first ranking event to be held in India after he beat Yi Yan 4-0. The Scot has yet to drop a frame at the tournament and marched into the next round with breaks of 73, 84 and 50.

World No. 1 Neil Robertson overcame Rod Lawler 4-2, while Stephen Maguire edged out Tom Ford 4-3. Ding Junhui was a 4-3 winner over Mark Joyce after fighting back from 3-1 down, but world No. 11 Mark Allen was stunned 4-2 by local-boy Pankaj Advani.
