Fu floors Selby to reach semi-finals
The pick of the quarter-finals at the International Championship lived up to its billing as Marco Fu edged out Mark Selby in a final frame to reach the last four.
Former world No. 1 Selby held a 5-3 lead and was on course to take the win, but the reigning UK and Masters champion squandered two opportunities to clinch victory. Fu took the ninth frame by a single point and rattled in breaks of 84 and 112 to book his spot in the semi-finals.
"I cued well today but I could have done better on some of the crucial shots. I have been in form recently and got some good tournament results, however I think I should have played more carefully against Mark. I know what I can do but I wasn't concentrating during the first couple of frames," Fu said.
Fu, who won the Australian Goldfields Open at the start of the season, will now take on Joe Perry after he brushed aside Ryan Day 6-1 in style, firing in three centuries en route to a fine win. Former world champion Graeme Dott ended the dream run of Ronnie O'Sullivan's conqueror Liang Wenbo, winning 6-3. Home favourite Ding Junhui meanwhile beat Peter Ebdon by the same scoreline.
