Neil Robertson booked his place in the Champion of Champions semi-final after a thrilling 6-5 Group Four win over Ali Carter at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Carter took the first frame with a break of 112, but the world No. 1 hit back with a 119 visit to level. Robertson found himself 3-1 down but again responded with two more century breaks of 105 and 113 to even the match up at three frames apiece.

A marvellous 127 saw Carter stretch ahead, but the Australian scored a 52 in the eighth frame before taking the lead for the first time after a scrappy frame nine.

Carter levelled to send the match into the decider, but Robertson held his nerve in the final frame to advance to the tournament semi-finals.

Earlier on Thursday, Robertson edged Martin Gould 4-3 in their Group Four semi-final. Robertson made breaks of 77, 129 and 112 to win the last three frames and come from 3-1 down to book his place in the final.

Carter defeated Mark Allen 4-3 in his semi-final with breaks of 77, 68 and 54, but a fuming Allen later revealed that he wanted to "punch" his opponent after the loss.

"Ali did things that he should know not to do," Allen said. "He moved in his seat on my backswing, and dropped his cue as I was about to hit. It was out of order and I could have shoved it in his face. I let it get to me and was bubbling, I wanted to punch him."

Carter responded by stating he apologised for the chair movement, but maintained Allen had overreacted.

"There was a moment in the fifth frame when he was playing a shot and I leaned in my chair to see round him and watch the shot. The chair creaked and I said sorry immediately," Carter said.

"We are in a big arena with loads of people, you get the odd noise. He won the frame anyway to go 3-2 up, so I don't know what he is talking about."

The Champion of Champions pits together the top 16 players in the world, who are split into four groups based on their world rankings. Each group features two semi-finals then a final, with each of the four winners of the finals going through to the semi-finals of the tournament proper.
