Mark Selby hopes he can win as many Masters crowns as Stephen Hendry as he aims to defend his title at the Alexandra Palace.

The world No. 2 begins the 2014 event on Sunday against Mark Davis, and defeated current world No. 1 Neil Robertson in the final to lift his third Masters trophy in 2013.

But Selby has his eyes on the record held by one of the all-time greats, Hendry, who won the prestigious tournament six times during his illustrious career.

"It would be nice to win the Masters a few more times and get up there with the likes of Hendry," Selby told BBC Sport on the event which features the top 16 players in the world.

And he added that he must be on his game if he is to avoid falling at the first hurdle.

"If you win it, you know you have deserved it because you're playing the best players in the world. But it means if you don't play well at the start, you're going home."
