Stephen Maguire held off a spirited fightback from Joe Perry to seal his place in the Masters quarter-finals, seeing off his opponent with a 6-4 victory at London's Alexandra Palace.

Maguire opened with a superb visit of 112 to take the lead, before following up with a break of 80 to take the second frame.

Perry hit back with a 78 of his own to reduce the deficit but a critical 56 restored the Scotsman's two-frame lead.

From there, Maguire took frames five and six to move within one of victory but Perry produced some impressive snooker under pressure to make it 5-2.

An incredibly tight eighth frame edged Perry's way and the comeback was within sight following a century break; a 106 in the ninth frame put Perry on course for taking the match to a decider.

However, Maguire held firm in the 10th to complete victory and set up a last eight clash with either world No. 1 Neil Robertson or Mark Allen.
