Robertson stunned by world No. 62 Pengfei

Neil Robertson is out of the German Masters after a shock 5-1 defeat to Tian Pengfei.

The world No. 1 fell 4-0 behind to the Chinese player, ranked 62, before salvaging the fifth frame. But that was as far as the comeback went.

Robertson, 31, who won the UK Championship in December and reached the quarter-finals of the Masters at Alexandra Palace earlier this month, said: "The lower-ranked players are used to taking on the top players in this kind of set-up with a lot of tables because it's like that at the European Tour events. There were two frames where I got a kick at the wrong moment and that cost me, which was frustrating.

"But Tian played really well and deserved to win."

Pengfei, 26, described it as the finest moment of his career.

"I have beaten Ronnie O'Sullivan before [at the 2010 China Open] but I was a wild card in that event, whereas this is a ranking event so it is my best win so far," he said.

"I was trying not to think about the result, I just played the match frame by frame."

Elsewhere, there were first-round wins for Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy and Ding Junhui, who beat Noppon Saengkham, Ken Doherty and Mark Williams respectively - all by the same scoreline of 5-1.
