O'Sullivan and Robertson cruise in Newport
Ronnie O'Sullivan cruised into the third round of the Welsh Open with a 4-1 win over Barry Pinches, but the reigning world champion fell just short of a record-breaking maximum break.
O'Sullivan made 104 in five minutes during the opening frame but missed the 14th red, which rattled around the jaws, and the chance of a 147 was gone.
The Englishman will now face China's Xiao Guodong.
World No.1 Neil Robertson thrashed Rory McLeod 4-0 to reach the last 32.
Australian Robertson finished in style with a break of 104, his 87th century of the season, and will face Mark Williams in the third round.
Williams, a two-time winner of the Welsh Open, was also a 4-0 winner, beating Tian Pengfei.
Shaun Murphy also progressed with a 4-2 win over Craig Steadman, while world No.5 Barry Hawkins defeated Cao Yupeng 4-3.
Ali Carter survived a scare as he came from 3-2 down to beat Mike Dunn 4-3, while Graeme Dott beat Jamie Jones by the same score. Ricky Walden defeated Matthew Selt 4-2.
Elsewhere, Jack Lisowski beat Martin Gould 4-1, Ben Woollaston notched a 4-1 win over Alfie Burden and Anthony McGill overcame Ryan Day 4-0.
