Ronnie O'Sullivan justified his tag as the favourite to win the Welsh Open after he cruised into the semi-finals with a 5-1 victory over John Higgins.

The reigning world champion was never troubled by Higgins, and made the most of his opportunities after Higgins failed to capitalise on his chances.

Masters champion O'Sullivan is looking to win for a third time at the Welsh Open, and will take on Barry Hawkins in the semi-finals after he defeated Marco Fu 5-0. The tie is set to be a repeat of last year's World Championship final.

Mark Selby was out-of-sorts as he crashed to a 5-1 defeat to Joe Perry. Perry will now face the player who has won four ranking events this season, Ding Junhui, after China's No.1 survived a scare against 19-year-old Joel Walker, coming from 4-2 behind to win 5-4.
