Ebdon shocks Trump in China

Former world champion Peter Ebdon is through to the last 16 of the China Open after a shock 5-4 win against world No.6 Judd Trump.

Ebdon is a two-time China Open winner and had to show championship form to hold off Trump, coming back from 4-3 down to win the final two frames.

Breaks of 70 and 62 saw Trump move 3-2 ahead and he looked set to edge victory as he moved within on frame of the third round. However, Ebdon produced runs of 48 and 30 to force a decider, which he claimed with superb 86 break.

"We both missed a few balls so perhaps the standard could have been a bit higher but I was very pleased with today's result," Ebdon told worldsnooker.com. "I tried really hard and it's a very good win for me.

"I decided not to play in all of the European Tour events this season. Some players are happy to play in all of the tournaments but that's not physically possible for me. It's very tiring for me because I put so much effort into my matches in terms of concentration. It's days like today that make me realise that it still worth me putting all the effort in. I proved today I'm still capable of beating the best players in the world."

World No.1 Neil Robertson gained revenge on Mark Williams with a 5-4 victory - he was defeated by the Welshman at the Welsh Open last month. Robertson will now play Yu Delu, who beat James Wattana 5-1.

"Yu beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in Preston last week so he's full of confidence. He'll be playing in front of his own fans and he plays a nice attacking game," Robertson said.

Mark Selby made light work of Nigel Bond in his 5-1 win but Marco Fu's impressive form suffered a dent after he was beaten 5-3 by Mark King.

Jimmy White top scored with 110 as he continued his fine form with a 5-3 victory against Alfie Burden, while John Higgins scored a 5-1 victory over Michael White.

Recently-crowned World Open champion Shaun Murphy eased into the third round with a 5-0 whitewash of Dechat Poomjaeng, while there were further wins for Ricky Walden and .

Teenage Luca Brecal beat Dominic Dale 5-1 and will now face Graeme Dott in the next round after the Scot clinched a tight 5-4 win over Dave Harold.
