Steve Davis, a six-time world champion and winner at the Crucible, will now have to take part at Q-School in order to regain his tour card if he is to continue playing alongside snooker's best.

Davis suffered a 10-8 defeat to Craig Steadman in their World Championship qualifying match and, as a result, lost his tour card. The 56-year-old had to win to retain his place on the main professional tour.

Davis, who made the quarter-finals at the Crucible in 2010, will compete at Q-School in May, while Steadman is now just two wins away from a place at this year's championship following his victory at nearby Ponds Forge.

Davis won his six world title between 1981 and 1989 and is also a four-time UK Championship winner.
