Neil Robertson closed in on an historic 100 century breaks in one season as he took a 9-7 lead over Mark Allen in their World Championship last-16 match.

The Australian took his tally to 99 after scoring a ton in taking five of the eight frames in the second session.

Starting at 4-4, Robertson made a 72 before Allen responded with a run of 71 in the tenth frame. The world No.1 then edged in front by taking a tight 11th frame.

Allen replied in kind again with a break of 77 to level at 6-6 at the interval before going in front with a break of 84.

A chance at a 147 went begging for Robertson after he had to go up for the yellow on the eighth red, though he still made a 137 total clearance.

Runs of 25 and 38 saw Robertson edge ahead by winning the 15th frame before he took the last to secure an overnight advantage, with the match to be played to a finish at 1pm on Monday.

Elsewhere, Shaun Murphy has a 9-7 lead over Marco Fu, with Ronnie O'Sullivan waiting in line for the winner in the quarter-finals. They play to a finish at 7pm tomorrow evening.

In the afternoon session, Dominic Dale closed in on a quarter-final spot by going 11-5 up against Michael Wasley, while Judd Trump is 10-6 up on Ryan Day.
