Bulls won despite themselves, Ludeke says

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke labelled his side's 36-36 win over Western Force as their worst performance in five years. Ludeke said on the eve of the Bulls' Australasian tour that the four-try bonus-point win masked the fact they had produced a poor display. "In the first half [the Force] kicked long and our kicking game from that wasn't good enough," Ludeke said. "It was definitely our worst performance in the last five years, the way we almost absorbed the pressure they applied there." The saving grace, Ludeke said, had been the way his side had come back to claim victory after trailing 26-19. "Last year against the Blues, we were in exactly the same situation; we couldn't get out of that grip and tonight we got back," Ludeke said. "All credit to the captain for the way we got back to things that are working for us: the maul started working, we managed the high ball, we forced some turnovers and we converted pressure." Ludeke was hopeful the Bulls could to carry the momentum into their Australasian tour, on which they play the Blues, Crusaders, Queensland Reds and the Brumbies in succession. "We will take a lot of confidence away, that is what we will need on tour as you will not always have the upper hand and you will need to grind and stick to what you are good at," he said. The Bulls proved too strong in the final stages, scoring 17 unanswered points to claim the victory
