Springboks No.8 Duane Vermeulen has dominated the South Africa Rugby Union (SARU) Awards, claiming three honours to round out a superb 12 months.

Vermeulen was named SARU's Player of the Year following an outstanding Test season that also saw him secure a nomination for World Rugby Player of the Year, an award eventually won by All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick. Vermeulen was also named South Africa Rugby Players Association Players' Player and South Africa's Super Rugby Player of the Year.

"Duane has been outstanding in 2014 and these awards are just reward for the excellent form he showed last year, as one of the Springboks' key performers and for the DHL Stormers," SARU President Oregan Hoskins said.

It was a memorable night for rising Springboks fly-half Handre Pollard as well, the playmaker named Young Player of the Year and Under 20's Player of the Year.
