Bayfield set for Hollywood stardom
July 14, 2000

Former England international and renowned after dinner speaker Martin Bayfield has been earmarked for a role in the forthcoming screen adaptation of the original Harry Potter children's book according to the Evening Standard newspaper.

Bayfield was spotted by the film's representatives giving one of his performances. He said, "We have had a couple of chats about the project, which is planned for next year and will be filmed over here.

"This is still very early in the process and I haven't had a chance to discuss the implications with Northampton. The proposition is very interesting and it would be pretty unique to be offered the chance to appear in a Hollywood film.

Bayfield, 33, won 31 caps for England and played in the 1995 World Cup before a neck injury curtailed his career. But he has become one of the most sought after acts on the after dinner circuit.

The Harry Potter books, the fourth of which has just broken the record for first-day sales, have sold more than 30 million copies and been translated into 31 languages making author J K Rowling's creation the children's book phenomenon of all time.
