Jones steps down as Gloucester captain
September 20, 2000

Former All Black Ian Jones has stepped down as captain of Gloucester to concentrate on turning the side's fortunes around.

Jones stressed that all he wants is success for Gloucester and he feels that this will be best achieved if he were able to concentrate more on his role as a player.

Philippe Saint Andre has appointed Kingsley Jones as captain for this Saturday's match against Harlequins.

The long term position of Captain will be reviewed after this match.

John Brain will resume a more active role in coaching the forwards.

Sainte Andre said: "On reviewing the position with Ian, we agreed that I had perhaps given him too much responsibility too soon and that it was in the best interest of the club for Ian to concentrate on his key role as a player."
