Pat McCutcheon is now regarded as one of Australian's most exciting up-and-coming forwards on the back of some fine displays for the Waratahs at the tail end of the 2010 Super Rugby season.
McCutcheon began the year as captain of his country's Sevens side for the 2009/2010 IRB Series. However, a shortage of back-row options led to the young blindside flanker being handed his Super Rugby debut as a replacement in the round 12 clash against the Highlanders. McCutcheon impressed and started the Waratahs' final two games of the regular season, as well as their play-off semi-final against the Stormers after being released from Sevens duty by the Australian Rugby Union.
McCutcheon's form ultimately earned him a full Super Rugby contract with the Waratahs for 2011. In addition, after returning to Sevens to lead Australia to victory in the Commonwealth Games Sevens tournament in Delhi in October, McCutcheon was included in the Wallabies' squad for their end-of-year tour.
