The Sharks have announced the signing of former France international Frederic Michalak from Toulouse with immediate effect.

Michalak, who has won 54 caps for France, announced earlier this month that he would be leaving the French Top club and will now rejoin the South African Super Rugby franchise with whom he had a brief stint in 2008.

The 28-year-old began his career with Toulouse in 1998 and has remained with the club since, apart from the spell with the Sharks when he helped them to the Currie Cup title as well as playing nine games for the Super Rugby side.

Michalak's swift departure means he will play no part in Toulouse's Top 14 final against Montpellier this weekend. He won one French title and two European Cups with the club

"It is no surprise that I am here again," Michalak said. "I loved my year that I spent in Durban and the cherry on the top was definitely winning the Currie Cup trophy. Unlike the first time when I signed for the Sharks, there won't be a problem in terms of a language barrier and being able to slot in with old team mates is definitely a plus factor for me.

Sharks coach John Plumtree said: "It is great to have him back and be available to us for selection from this weekend. His arrival could not have been timed better."

Michalak had announced that he would be leaving Toulouse at the end of the season after former France fly-half Lionel Beauxis, Waratahs scrum-half Luke Burgess and All Black Luke McAlistair, who can play at centre and fly-half, all agreed to join the club from next season.
