Heyneke Meyer has been named the Bulls' director of rugby as part of a major re-structuring of the franchise.

Meyer steered the Blue Bulls to four Currie Cup titles and the Bulls to their first Super Rugby title in 2007 during his previous stint as coach of the Pretoria-based side before a brief spell with English Premiership side Leicester Tigers.

He returned to the Bulls in 2009 in a general role but will now head up the enitre rugby department with Frans Ludeke continuing as head coach of the Bulls while South Africa U20s coach Johan Pienaar has been drafted in to take charge of the Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup sides.

Meyer's appointment is seen as the catalyst for a 'new legacy' at the Bulls, according to CEO Barend van Graan. "We need to challenge the future and these appointments will help us to build a new legacy at the Bulls after a very successful era has passed," van Graan said. "Heyneke will focus on developing the 'Bulls way', while Frans will be able to focus on Super Rugby and the research and development that goes with that."
