Samoa will head into their Pool D clash with South Africa in North Shore looking for their first victory over the Springboks.

South Africa have recorded six victories over the Pacific Islanders with the sides first meeting coming in Johannesburg in 1995. In truth Samoa have never come close to upsetting the Springboks with South Africa running out convincing winners each time they have met. The Springboks' smallest margin of victory was 27 points in Johannesburg in 2007.

On four occasions South Africa have racked up more than 50 points, three times they have scored 60. The record looks no better for Samoa when the three meetings in a Rugby World Cup are taken in isolation. In June 1995 Chester Williams scored four tries as the Springboks ran out 42-14 victors on their way to being crowned World Champions. Eight years later they scored eight tries to defeat Samoa 60-10 in the Pool stages and then Bryan Habana replicated Williams' feat by scoring four tries as the Springboks crushed their opponents 59-7 on the path to lifting the Webb Ellis trophy once again.
