Former South African fly-half Braam van Straaten is set to be awarded a new one-year deal with the Wallabies.

Van Straaten's time with Australia has arguably been a success. As part of Robbie Deans' coaching setup, he has helped them to a third place finish in the 2011 World Cup and a Tri-Nations title. And Van Straaten claims that their kicking success rate has improved by 23% while with the Wallabies.

And when asked about the possibility of an extension with the Wallabies, Van Straaten said: It is great. Australia have a whole lot of talented players such as Kurtley Beale and James O' Connor and they are very professional, so it is a pleasure working with them.

"I also enjoyed my time with the team at the World Cup. As things stand, we have agreed on the terms of the contract, so all that is left to do is sign it."

Van Straaten is also on the books of the Golden Lions - and again experienced success in Johannesburg with the Lions lifting the Currie Cup for the first time in 12 years and their kicking improving by 19-20% over the past six months.

And on the Lions, Van Straaten said: "I have to find out exactly what they expect from me and I have a few terms as well, so there are a few details that have to be finalised before I sign with them. But I would like to be involved with the union. They also have talented players who have great potential."
