Saracens hooker Schalk Brits has extended his current contract with the reigning Aviva Premiership champions.

The 30-year-old South African international has been one of the Premiership's stand out players since linking up with Sarries in 2009 and was a key figure in their run to the title last season, picking up the man of the match honour in the Twickenham finale.

He was named the Rugby Players' Association's Player of the Year in his first season in English rugby's top flight and has twice been nominated for the Premiership Player of the Year honour. He also won the Try of the Year award last season for his effort against Gloucester.

Director of rugby Mark McCall was understandably delighted to re-sign Brits, a player he believes is the envy of all the European rivals. "Schalk has been rightly recognised as one of the stars of the Premiership, and I don't believe there is a club in Europe that would not like to have such a gifted and committed player in their squad. We are obviously delighted he has committed his future to Saracens."

Brits, who joined Saracens from Super Rugby side the Stormers, was more than happy to commit his future to the club. "There really is something very special happening at Saracens, and I have never been happier in my entire career."
