Gary Gold's move to Bath appears to be far from done with the current Newcastle Falcons boss open to a switch back to South Africa or remaining in the Aviva Premiership.

Gold is currently attempting to mastermind the Falcons' great escape from their current predicament at the foot of the Premiership table with just one game left, but with Dean Richards taking the helm at Newcastle next term, Gold will be out of a job.

The former South Africa assistant coach has been linked with a move to Bath, but Gold insists that he is still unsure where his future lies.

"There are two opportunities over there that have opened up and I would very much like to consider," Gold told the Independent. "But I have also made no secret of the fact that I love the Premiership. The game in England is well run and in a healthy state, and I love the traditions.

"I'm aware there are Premiership jobs out there, but my main focus is on going home to Cape Town to see if my family still recognise me. From there I will take a breath, weigh up my options and see where we go."

The newspaper also reports that Bath are monitoring Stade Francais coach Michael Cheika's availability. However, reports in the Australian press suggest that Cheika and former Italy boss Nick Mallett, another man linked with Bath, are in the frame to replace Richard Graham at the Western Force.
