Lewsey: It's time for Cipriani to be responsible

Danny Cipriani's former Wasps team-mate Josh Lewsey has said it's time for the mercurial fly-half to turn his potential into form ahead of the new season.

Cipriani shone for Wasps in his early days and went on to win seven caps for England. A spell at the Melbourne Rebels followed but Cipriani failed to light up the Aviva Premiership last season at his club Sale Sharks. His campaign was blighted by off-field stories, notably when he was hit by a bus in Leeds on a night out, and Lewsey says Cipriani must "grow up and take responsibility" for his actions.

"I care an awful lot about Danny and deep down he's a really nice kid," Lewsey told the Rugby Paper. "I don't know who advises him or whatever, but what a shame if he doesn't fulfil his potential. Everyone wants the best for him really and people want him to do well, because we're not blessed with that much talent in this country that we can afford to give up on someone like that.

"But actions speak louder than words and, ultimately, part of growing up is taking ownership and being responsible for what you achieve in life. It's what being an adult is all about. That's what Danny must learn. Let's just hope he turns it around because everyone wants to see him do well."
