Former Bath Rugby coach Gary Gold has signed a two-year deal to take charge of the Kobe Steel Kobelco Steelers in Japan's Top League, ESPN understands.

Gold left Bath in December midway through his contract at the club and has since returned to Cape Town. His next port of call will be in Japan where he will join the likes of Robbie Deans and Rob Penney in taking up roles in the Top League.

Gold's side includes the likes of Peter Grant, Andries Bekker and Jacques Fourie, players he coached when he was part of the Springboks' backroom staff during Peter de Villiers' time in charge.

Gold will bring extensive coaching experience to the role having coached London Irish, Western Province, Springboks, Newcastle Falcons and Bath.
